What can we expect from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?

I’ve meant to write about this for some time, but I didn’t get around it. On the bright side, while I kept postponing writing this post more exciting news was revealed about the new fantastical journey we’re about to begin.

The internet was burning up back in April when the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hit the internet and now a more detailed trailer arose on Youtube after it was revealed at ComicCon.

As expected people are sharing it on social media channels and cling on to every news, that’s even remotely linked to the movie. As a matter of fact, the teasers did so well that later on, J.K. Rowling announced there’s going to be a trilogy.

Here are a few things fans shared on Twitter:

Let’s talk about the movie, shall we?

The first movie will hit the theaters on the 18th of November 2016 (which is getting close), so make sure to mark the date on your calendar!

We already know the movie is going to happen inside the wizarding world of the Harry Potter series, the movie trailer even starts with the well-known spell “Lumos Maxima”.

However, this time around the setting will be in New York in 1926 with all new characters. Warner Bros said the second film “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world”. Whatever that means…

As seen in the trailer above this flash-forward seems very promising. The storyline is stirring curiosity and for those of you who didn’t know, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was in the literature list the wizards from Harry Potter’s generation had to read at Hogwarts. Thus the book is not mentioned very much in the series, it did inspire J.K. Rowling to write a book from within a book (inception, do people still say that?).

The book was released in 2001, and it gives information about magical creatures in the wizarding universe. The book wasn’t as successful as the Harry Potter series, but Warner Bros. decided to give the spin-off a try and announced in 2013 to make a motion picture.

It’s all about Newt not about Harry

The story features Newt Scamander a wizard, adventurer and the Magizoologist who wrote the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The Harry Potter generation that we know will not appear in the story as the adventure will happen 70 years before Harry’s story starts.

The lead character, Newt is coming to New York from England, for reasons they won’t disclose, with his rugged magical case which is bigger on the inside and houses a significant number of magical creatures. The adventure truly starts when something happens causing Newt’s bag to burst open, setting free the magical monsters. That is as far as I will go about the storyline, I’m not intending on giving you any further spoilers! But I will tell you this: In the American wizarding world “Muggles” (a person who possesses no magical skills or abilities ) are called “No-Maj”.

Unlike the first sneak peak, the second trailer shows more of the characters, fantastic creatures and the American wizarding world which appear to be terribly scared of being outed.

I think it’s safe to say that we have here a blockbuster that will be a hit at the box office!

It’s impressive how even though it’s so different from the Harry Potter world that we know, it’s also very alike. I think we all smiled a little inside when we heard the familiar tune from the Harry Potter series in the end 🙂

I guess all we can do know is be patient and wait until November (*sign*) That’s a total of 105 days to go as from today.
