Denim on denim, crop tops, chokers and now movies! It’s official, the 90s are back. And this would never have happened without the help of the music industry.
Unless you didn’t have access to the internet for the last, well year, you must have noticed a few themed music videos on Youtube. A good number a female artists embraced 90s themes or influences in their video lately. Even big fashion brands like H&M and ZARA have 90s inspired clothes and we’re not complaining!
- Iggy Azalea – Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)
One of the first and most obvious examples would be Iggy Azalea’s Fancy video inspire by the 1995 movie Clueless. As part of the millennial generation I also don’t remember much of the 90s and I discovered this movies way after it was originally released. I absolutely loved it and like any other internet-obsessed-girl I searched the movie on Tumblr just to find an entire fandom of young people. Clearly, Clueless is a goldie of the 90s.
- Charli XCX – Doing it (feat. Rita Ora)
Fashion-wise this video is filled with 90’s influences. We can start with the Western outfits, all the LATEX and the beginning is also a big give away (1995! When is it? I don’t know). Some items I really love are Charli XCX’s blueish fur coat and sparkly choker.
- Little Mix – Black Magic
I don’t know about you but the first 10 seconds after watching this video I thought of the 90’s TV series Charmed. Maybe mostly because of the magic and the incantation scene I got a back flash of the Charmed girls in the good ol’ days. But now let’s talk about clothes! The video takes place at a school filled with students and they made sure to dress everyone 90’s appropriate and that’s already a plus from me. If I were to pick a favorite look I think I would go for the blonde mean girl’s silver 2-piece and awesome chokers <3
Little Mix really out done themselves with this video, it looks great and has a good message young girls can relate to! And let’s be real, who would like to change their hair color at will?
